2026 Match: Hurst College vs The Old Hurst Johnian Golf Society
After losing this fixture for over a decade, we were delighted to finally reinstate the match against the College and once again compete for the Henwood Salver Plate.
We were blessed with fantastic weather and treated to some highly competitive golf throughout the day. The College brought a young but talented team of golfers, along with several low-handicap staff members, providing a stern test for some of our more seasoned Society players. Most impressively, with Philip Ayton (79) representing the Society, there was an age gap of 65 years between the oldest and youngest competitors. The result of the day perhaps proved that experience can be just as valuable on the golf course as youth and power.
Our prize winners were:
- Nearest the Pin (8th Hole): George Atkins (OJ)
- Longest Drive (10th Hole): Tom Fairfax (OJ), making full use of his members’ advance
- Nearest the Pin in Two (18th Hole): Will Mitchell (5th), who bravely attempted to drive the green before chipping from the bunker to 13 feet
